BUCHAREST, Romania – Romania’s defence ministry says two of its soldiers have been killed and another injured during a training mission in Afghanistan.
The ministry said incident happened Saturday morning near the town of Kandahar, while the troops were training Afghan police officers.
The foreign ministry offered no further details, and the incident is being investigated.
The soldiers were identified as Plutonier Iulian Dumitrescu and Sgt. Adrian Vizireanu. The injured man is in a stable condition and will be transferred to Germany for treatment.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc sent condolences.
The defence ministry says Romania has 631 troops serving in Afghanistan and has had soldiers there since 2002.
