Palestinian man loses quarter-century deportation battle, sent to Lebanon
OTTAWA – A 70-year-old man convicted for terrorist attack in the 1960s has been kicked out of Canada after fighting deportation for 26 years.
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced today that Mahmoud Mohammad Issa Mohammad was flown to Lebanon over the weekend.
Canadian border agents escorted Mohammad on the charter flight, which also carried a medical team because he has undisclosed health issues.
Kenney says the Mohammad case had become a symbol of a brokenimmigration system.
Following a string of appeals, the man was eventually deported under new legislation introduced by the Conservative government.
He had been living in southern Ontario since 1987.
Kenney said Mohammad came to Canada in 1987 under a false name, after being convicted in a 1968 attack on an El Al passenger plane in Greece.
