Early peeper sees the leaf in Maine, where colour’s coming
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The leaf peeping has begun in northern Maine.
The state with the densest forest on the East Coast is starting its annual display of colour. The Maine Office of Tourism says fall colours are arriving in the northern part of the state. There’s moderate colour change in northern Maine, while the rest of the state is at less than 50 per centcolour change.
Far northern Maine tends to reach peak colour around the end of September and beginning of October. The rest of the state starts seeing more yellow, orange and red leaves deeper in October, especially along the coast.
Fall tourism is a big draw in the Pine Tree State, where residents drive from points south to pick apples, sip cider and bask in the changing leaves.
