Samantha Richdale leads by five shots at Canadian women’s tour opener

TSAWWASSEN, B.C. – Samantha Richdale of Kelowna, B.C. fired an opening round 7-under-par 65 on Tuesday to take a five stroke lead at the CN Canadian Women’s Tour season-opening event.

Richdale, who competes primarily on the Symetra Tour this season, posted eight birdies on the opening day to break the course record at Beach Grove Golf Club.

She sank a birdie putt on her final hole to post a 4-under-par 31 on her closing nine as she vies for the $10,000 first prize and an exemption into the 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Open and

Brooke Henderson, a 15-year-old amateur from Smiths Falls, Ont, is tied for second at 2-under withBenjamina Lee of Los Angeles, and amateur Simin Feng, 18, of Windermere, Fla.

Amateur Naomi Ko, 15, of Victoria, B.C., opened with a 1-under-par 71.
