Summerland man identified in fatal highway accident

SUMMERLAND – The B.C. Coroners Service has identified a man who died in a vehicle accident in Summerland Sept. 22.

He was Gildo Vit, 77, of Summerland.

Vit was walking across Highway 97 near the intersection of Steuart Street in Summerland when he was hit by a southbound tractor trailer just after 10 a.m. He was rushed to Penticton Regional Hospital but died of his injuries shortly after arrival.

Vit's family have been notified of his death. The B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate his death.
