BERLIN – Police say they’ve arrested a 51-year-old German man on allegations he detonated a bag with illegal firecrackers in a Hamburg subway station.
Hamburg police said Tuesday that a judge has ordered the man to remain in custody while an investigation continues.
The minor explosion blew out a pane of glass in the city’s Veddel subway station on Sunday night and briefly raised fears of a possible terrorist attack.
Police released no further information about the suspect. Germany’s Bild newspaper identified him as Stephan K., a Hamburg resident with a previous conviction and ties to neo-Nazi groups.
