Penticton poet Shane Koyczan will be in the Okanagan for a show this fall

PENTICTON – Shane Koyczan's fall tour will be making a stop in the Okanagan.

The Penticton poet, spoken word artist and author's fall tour includes a show at the Cleland Theatre in November.

Koyczan’s reknown began with his performance at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Since then he’s become a household name, both nationally and around the world, according to a media release.

Koyczan’s anti-bullying video To This Day Project has captured 14 million views since its release in 2013, the release says. His ability to infiltrate pop culture is something few poets have been able to do,  but Koyczan has been able to catch the imagination of the public through his ability to speak directly to them in their own voice.

Some of his best known work also includes a poem about cyber-bullying called Troll which is dedicated to everyone who has lost friends or family through online abuse. He’s also written a novel Stickboy which has become subject of an art exhibit and an opera.

Koyczan has shared the stage with Neil Young, Margaret Atwood, Feist, Joel Plaskett Jenn Grant, Chantel Kreviazuk and Raine Maida while performing a coast to coast tour with David Suzuki Foundation’s Blue Dot tour, the release states. He has competed and won the U.S. Slam Poetry Championship as well as the Canadian Spoken Word Olympics.

Koyczan wil be performing at Cleland Theatre in Penticton on Nov. 4 as part of his fall tour. Tickets will be available for sale at $35 on Friday, May 5 at the box office at 325 Power St. or by phone at 250-490-2426.
