Calls for service on the rise at Vernon RCMP detachment

VERNON – Vernon Mounties continue to receive more and more calls for service, according to a report from the detachment.

Supt. Jim McNamara says in a quarterly policing report that call volume was up from January to March of this year.

The Vernon-North Okanagan detachment had 5.39 per cent more calls for service in 2016 over 2015 and things haven’t slowed down in 2017.

“That trend continues this year with an additional 6.52 per cent increase in calls for service since January 1,” McNamara says in the written report.

Thefts from vehicles, break and enters and thefts under $5,000 continue to account for a large volume of calls.

Compared to the same time last year, McNamara says there’s been a five per cent increase in property crime. Overall, however, criminal code cases were down just over seven per cent.
