Live beehive stolen in surge of Summerland crime

SUMMERLAND – Thieves made off with a live beehive during a bit of a crime spree in Summerland over the past week.

Officers responded to 92 cases from April 23 to May 1, according to an RCMP media release.

Thieves made off with a two-and-a-half foot long brown and blue box with a red lid abuzz with a live beehive. The large beehive was reported stolen from the orchard area of Giants Head Road on May 1. The hive was used for pollination and police say no one should attempt to remove it or touch it, police should be contacted right away.

On April 26 a call came in reporting a stolen 2002 Volkswagen Golf. The car was later found the same night.

A truck backed into a holiday trailer in the parking lot of Okanagan Travel Land RV Sales on April 29 at 2 a.m. and drove away. Police determined the truck was stolen and followed and stopped it on Marron Valley Road near Highway 3. RCMP say multiple charges are pending.

RCMP say over the week span, several vehicles were broken into and items were stolen.
