Handwritten lyrics of Beatles classics headed for permanent display at British Library

LONDON – Shakespeare, the Magna Carta — and now some of John Lennon’s finest lyrics. The august British Library has added substantially to its already formidable collection with handwritten lyrics to “Strawberry Fields Forever”, “She Said She Said” and “In My Life.”

The manucripts and a number of Lennon’s letters were donated to the library Wednesday by Hunter Davies, a Beatles biographer with longtime connections to the Fab Four.

Davies says he is pleased the unique collection will be kept together and put on public display.

In exchange for the gift, Davie will receive a reduction in his tax liability.

Handwritten lyrics by the band have recently sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
