Electrical fire forces family from Rutland home

KELOWNA – It could have been much worse for a family that woke to smoke alarms early this morning.

The family of six were sleeping until around 2 a.m. May 4 when they responded to a fire in their garage and called 911. By the time firefighters arrived they found the fire had extended through the garage wall and into the mechanical room of the home in the 500 block of Holbrook Road E, Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Capt. Steve Wallick says in a release.

They managed to put it out quickly enough but the family had to leave the home in the care of Emergency Support Services.

The fire is not considered suspicious.
