City of Enderby declares state of local emergency

ENDERBY – The City of Enderby has declared a state of local emergency as the city’s ability to bring in water is ‘verging on non-existent.’

City administration is asking all residents and businesses to take steps to conserve water today, May 6, until further notice as the loss of water becomes imminent, according to a press release. The issue affects all City of Enderby residents and businesses west of the bridge.

The city cannot use the Shuswap River, the city's primary source of water, when turbidity levels are high. The back up sources for water can't be used due to the loss of a water main under the river bed last month.

Efforts to conserve water can include only using bottled water for consumption, eliminating all non-essential water usage and limiting essential water usage to the absolute bare minimum.

A mandatory water conservation advisory was issued yesterday, May 5.
