Ben Lee Park face slasher already back in Kelowna court

KELOWNA – The Kelowna man who was sentenced to time already served for slashing a Kelowna man in the face with a machete and stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the back has allegedly already breached his parole.

Derrick Antoine admitted that late on Aug. 8, 2016 he approached a Kelowna man, Matt LeBlanc, who was with friends in Ben Lee Park. After words were exchanged, Antoine and one other man punched and kicked LeBlanc before Antoine slashed him across the face with a machete. The wound was to the bone and required 30 stitches.

One week later Antoine was arrested after police were called to a home in Rutland where they found Antoine’s ex-girlfriend and mother of his child with a small puncture wound in her back.

Antoine pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon, domestic assault, assault causing bodily harm and resisting arrest for giving police a false name.

The judge called the attacks “vicious” and “barbaric” but agreed to the joint submission of 217 days of time served.

Now court documents show Antoine, a Splatsin First Nation member, is due back in court for making contact with one of the victims and for being caught in an area of town where he is not allowed.

The documents do not say which victim he contacted or where he was arrested.

At the time of his initial arrest Antoine was on condition not to contact the mother of his child or possess weapons after another incident when he whipped her in the face with a telephone cord.
