Man jumps from moving plane at Toronto airport, escapes injury

TORONTO – A man jumped from a moving plane at Toronto’s Pearson airport early Monday morning but wasn’t injured by his fall.

Peel Region police say the 32-year-old Toronto resident was on Sunwing flight returning from Cuba when the incident took place.

Const. Fiona Thivierge says the plane landed safely and was taxiing to its gate when the man suddenly opened an emergency exit at the back of the plane and jumped.

Thivierge says ground crews who were around the plane at the time held the man until police arrived.

She says it was discovered the man had mental health issues and he was taken to a local hospital.

No charges have been laid.
