BREAKING: Todd Stone re-elected in Kamloops-South Thompson

KAMLOOPS – The people have spoken and Todd Stone will serve a second term as MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson.

“We don’t care where the boundaries are, Kamloops is Kamloops. We are going to represent this region and we are going to do it with every ounce of commitment we’ve got,” Stone said to the boisterous crowd at Hotel 540 during his acceptance speech.

B.C. Liberal candidate Stone beat B.C. NDP candidate Nancy Bepple and B.C. Green candidate Donovan Cavers.

In a recent media interview, Stone spoke out in what some believe to be support for the propsed Ajax Mine

“What I added to the discussion (yesterday) was that I have a deep and abiding respect for the mining families in this province. I hope this project can go ahead,” he said.

The Liberals and their supporters are celebrating the win at Hotel 540 in downtown Kamloops.

BEPPLE CONCEDES TO STONE

NDP candidate Nancy Bepple addressed supporters in the North Shore.

It might not have been the result she was hoping for, but Bepple says it's important to realize we live in a democratic society and the peoples' votes matter.

"We may not have won but our message got out," she said. "I'm really proud of the campaign crew. Hundreds of people put in the time for the NDP."

If Bepple could change one thing, she would go back and knock on more doors.

For now, she's not thinking about politics but wants to contribute to the community any way she can.
