Kamloops clubs join forces to clean off road vehicle area

KAMLOOPS – Local clubs teamed up, rolled up their sleeves to clean garbage and debris from a popular off road vehicle recreation spot in Batchelor Heights.

Shayna Van Tine with the Kamloops 4×4 Club says although there were fewer volunteers this year, they still managed to collect a hefty amount of rubbish.

Furniture, propane tanks riddled with bullet holes, tires, roofing shingles and a car were removed from the popular recreation off road area near the Lac Du Bois protected grasslands.

The Kamloops Naturalist Club, the Four Wheel Drive Association and the Kamloops 4×4 Club combined forces and nearly filled a 40 yard bin.

“We were pleased that the off road vehicle park in Batchelor Heights was surprisingly clean, so we branched off the main Lac Du Bois road. We found an abandoned fire at Lac Du Bois Lake. Members hauled water up from the lake in buckets and used shovels to extinguish the fire before continuing on,” Van Tine says in an email.
