B.C. ELECTION 2017: Eye on the Boundary-Similkameen riding
OSOYOOS – Four candidates are vying for the Boundary Similkameen riding in today’s election.
Incumbent Liberal MLA Linda Larson is hoping to win a second term. In what is expected to be a tight race, she is up against NDP candidate Colleen Ross and Green Party candidate Vonnie Lavers in today's B.C. provincial election, May 9.
Grand Forks based NDP candidate Colleen Ross campaigned on a platform of food sovereignty, social justice and fair labour laws.
Vonnie Lavers campaigned for new thinking, families and common sense principles as the riding’s Green Party candidate. Peter Entwistle is running as an independent.
The riding’s boundaries have changed over the years, but since 2009 it has been in Liberal hands.
Prior to that the riding was in the hands of New Democrat MLA Bill Barlee.
The riding encompasses the South Okanagan, Similkameen and Boundary regions of southern B.C.
More than 29,000 voters were registered for the 2013 election in Boundary-Similkameen, in which Linda Larson won with 46.59 per cent of the popular vote.
Her next closest competitor in 2013 was NDP candidate Sam Hancheroff, with 38.99 per cent of the popular vote.
