Who cared enough to vote in the Kamloops area?
KAMLOOPS – Were you an active participant in the historic and unprecedented provincial election yesterday? If so, you were among six out of ten people who voted.
According to preliminary figures released by Elections BC, 60.57 per cent of registered voters in the Kamloops-South Thompson riding cast a ballot, a slight drop from 62.18 per cent in 2013.
Kamloops-North Thompson was a bit lower still with a 55.86 per cent turnout. This year, the figure dropped about two per cent from 57.97 in 2013. In Fraser-Nicola, data shows 61.77 of registered voters participated, a slight improvement to the 61.52 per cent in 2013.
It turns out that locals in the region made it out in slightly higher numbers than voters in Okanagan ridings.
Provincially, voter turnout was 56.99 per cent.
