FLOOD WATCH 2017: Flooding potential prompts notice in Summerland

SUMMERLAND – The District of Summerland is cautioning residents to be aware of the possibility of flooding after higher than usual water levels have been experienced in the area.

Summerland work crews bermed a section of Aeneas Creek on Tuesday, May 9, after the high-running creek breached its bank, according to a media release.

The District says the high water levels near the intersection of Garnet Avenue and Tingley Street have been resolved, but concerns remain regarding creek levels and potential flooding in the community.

A state of emergency will be declared if a flooding situation arises which poses imminent threat to health, safety or welfare of residents and their property, the District says.

Sand is being delivered to several locations throughout Summerland and sandbags are available for filling at the firehall located at 10115 Jubilee Rd. W.

Sand is currently available at the Wharton and Kelly lot.

If you see flooding call 911.If you see a flooding situation developing call district staff at 250-486-3765.

Residents are also encouraged to monitor the Summerland Facebook page for the most up to date information in the event of a flooding emergency.
