Police helicopter deployed after armed man reported in Kelowna

KELOWNA – A report of an armed man brought police and an RCMP helicopter to the Sexsmith Road area of Kelowna today.

Around 2:30 today, May 11, RCMP general duty officers were joined by members of the Street Enforcement Team, the Downtown Enforcement Unit and RCMP Air Services after a report that an armed man was in the 3000 block of Appaloosa Road.

A media release from Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says police took a man into custody shortly after arriving on scene.

“RCMP have since confirmed that what appeared to be a firearm was in fact an air soft pistol,” he says.

The release does not say if the man was charged with a crime.
