Canada bans all Iranian imports, exports, expands blacklist: Baird

OTTAWA – Canada is banning exports to and imports from Iran and adding 30 individuals and 82 entities to an economic blacklist.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird says these sanctions underscore Canadian concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Baird says Iran has produced nothing but broken promises and empty gestures in talks about its nuclear program.

The ban on exports to the country could be modified if necessary for humanitarian needs, the minister says.

Baird says Canada has lost faith in the Iranian regime, but not the Iranian people.

Iran claims its nuclear program is aimed at power generation, but the international community fears it is trying to produce weapons.
