Woman who shot estranged husband granted full parole, 11 years after slaying
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A Falkland, B.C., woman who shot and killed her husband and tried to kill his friend has been granted full release by the National Parole Board.
The board says 49-year-old Darlene Young is a low risk to re-offend.
A psychiatric assessment shows no evidence of mental health issues as the woman is coping well with conditional released and has a positive relationship with her case worker.
Young killed her estranged husband, Skip Payton, in 2002, with a shotgun blast to the chest as he sat at the couple’s kitchen table.
Four special conditions have been attached to Young’s release, including no direct or indirect contact with Payton’s family.
She must also immediately report to her parole supervisor if she has any intimate sexual or non-sexual relationships with men. (CHNL)
