FLOOD WATCH 2017: Kamloops declares state of local emergency as Heffley Creek threatens home

KAMLOOPS – The City of Kamloops has declared a state of local emergency in the Heffley Creek area.

One home is threatened as stream bank erosion continues in the 500 block of Lister Road. City crews are taking action today, May 12, to prevent more erosion and lessen the risk to the home.

Only one home appears to be threatened at this time, according to a city press release. City staff are monitoring the situation for homes adjacent to Heffley Creek and within city limits and assessing risks.

The Kamloops Emergency Operations Centre will be staffed 24 hours-a-day throughout the weekend to respond to any situations that arise from the current high water issues.

The City advises people to stay back from river and creek banks and to keep pets and livestock back as well.
