Red Wings GM Ken Holland says season-ending setback stings day after Game 7 loss to Blackhawks
DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland says its stings to have the season end by losing a 3-1 series lead against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks beat Detroit 2-1 in overtime Wednesday night to advance to the Western Conference finals.
Holland says he has mixed emotions about the lockout-shortened year.
He’s disappointed Detroit couldn’t win one more game to advance for a second time this post-season. Holland is encouraged, though, by how well the team’s veterans led and the ways in which its inexperienced players improved during a rebuilding season.
The Red Wings hope to agree to win-win deals with Damien Brunner, Valtteri Filppula, Daniel Cleary and Drew Miller before they hit the market as unrestricted free agents. They also want to extend Pavel Datsyuk’s contract in July.
