Celebrities get behind fight to save Vernon’s Kin Race Track

VERNON – An Okanagan group’s fight to save Kin Race Track in Vernon has got some star power behind it.

Actors Shaun Johnston and Amber Marshall, who play Jack and Amy on the CBC TV show Heartland, threw their support behind the track in a recent video.

“We want to give a shoutout to those fighting to save the Kin Race Track,” Marshall says in the video.

“Kin Race Track is the oldest standing horse racing track in Canada,” adds Johnston.

The Okanagan Equestrian Centre is fighting a legal battle with the City of Vernon and North Okanagan Regional District to keep the facility open for horse racing and other equestrian activities.

The parties head to trial July 24 in New Westminster to argue the case.

The Equestrian Society is raising funds for legal bills by selling debentures. It also has a Go Fund Me account, and an upcoming dinner and dance.
