Trial date set for Vernon man charged in 2015 murder

VERNON – A Supreme Court trial into a 2015 Vernon murder is expected to start later this year.

Jason Hardy, 42, was found dead in Polson Park Aug. 26, 2015. Initially, police charged three people with second degree murder, an 18-year-old, a 14-year-old, and a 28-year-old, all from Greater Vernon.

Charges were eventually dropped against the two teens after the Crown determined there was not a strong likelihood of conviction.

Tal Kalum La Riviere, born in 1987, is the only person still facing charges. He was ordered to stand trial last October following a preliminary inquiry.

According to the Vernon court registry, La Riviere is scheduled to appear for trial in Vernon Supreme Court starting Oct. 16.

He will be tried by a jury.
