Man arrested after barricading himself in bathroom and shooting up walls

VICTORIA – Police in Victoria used a conducted energy weapon to take a man into custody after he allegedly barricaded himself in his bathroom and fired about a dozen shots into walls and doors.

The department says police responded to a 911 call at about 8 a.m. Friday from a distraught and possibly intoxicated man who said he had a gun and was going to lock himself in the bathroom.

Officers evacuated nearby suites and surrounded parts of the building after the man didn’t respond to numerous attempts to contact him.

Police say the man eventually emerged from his bathroom without warning and failed to follow direction, at which point a conducted energy weapon was deployed.

He was seen by an ambulance on standby and transported to hospital as a precaution.

Police say none of the neighbouring suites appeared to have been damaged by any of the rounds that were fired into the man’s bathroom walls.
