New plans for downtown Kelowna’s ‘dirt hill’ include tallest towers in the city

KELOWNA – The most expensive pile of dirt in Kelowna may finally be ready for development.

The infamous ‘dirt hill’ property is prime downtown real estate but has been vacant for 10 years but now a developer is hoping to create two towers of condominiums. At 29 and 36 storeys under the name One Water Street, at the corner of Water Street and Sunset Drive, they would be the tallest buildings in the city, according to the developer.

But first, they need to get through a rezoning hearing. The developers, North American Development Group and Kerkhoff Construction, have engaged an architect and will unveil more of its plans at a public open house June 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Laurel Packinghouse on Cawston and Ellis.
