FLOOD WATCH 2017: Kelowna lakefront residents are to leave debris where it is

KELOWNA – It may not look very nice, but residents are being told to leave debris on their lakefront properties, for now.

The city's suburban and rural planning manager told city council yesterday, May 15, the debris can act as a barrier to help prevent flooding.

“The logs and other wood material will help limit erosion caused by wave action,” Cashin says.

Once the risk of flooding has passed, the City will make arrangements to remove beach debris.

A combination of heavy rain and a melting snow pack have contributed to flooding throughout the southern Interior, including the Central Okanagan.
