Toronto Argonauts missing key defensive players as training camp opens

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts opened training camp with some key players missing from their defence.

The Argos took the field without safety Jordan Younger and cornerbacks Pat Watkins and Pacino Horne.

Younger, Toronto’s defence captain, has hinted to the team he’s leaning toward retirement.

The nine-year veteran began his CFL career with a Grey Cup win with the Argos in 2004 and may end it with the 2012 championship.

Watkins is gone tending to a personal matter in the United States, while Horne is nursing a calf injury.

Horne is a week or two away from participating in camp. There’s no timeline for Watkins’ return.

One player who did arrive was defensive tackle Khalif Mitchell, who was obtained in an off-season trade with the B.C Lions. After the trade, Mitchell had initially said he would not report to the Argos.
