Pair accused of recording prank call between NFL GMs plead not guilty
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Two Massachusetts men accused of secretly recording and selling a prank phone call involving two NFL general managers will remain free after pleading not guilty to federal wiretapping charges in New York.
Joshua Barber and Nicholas Kaiser declined to speak with reporters after appearing Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Buffalo.
Investigators say the 20-year-olds from Plymouth, Mass., arranged a March 8 call between Buffalo Bills then-GM Buddy Nix and Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik. A recording of it wound up on the sports gossip website Deadspin.com.
Prosecutors say Barber called Nix posing as Dominik and then called Dominik and used the conference call function to link the calls, during which the GMs discussed free agency.
Kaiser’s lawyer, Rodney Personius, says he’s open to a pretrial resolution of the case.
