Return man Demond Washington in the hunt for defensive job with Blue Bombers

WINNIPEG – After ranking third in CFL return yards last season, Demond Washington is in the hunt for a starting spot on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defence.

Injuries and a lot of shuffling hampered Winnipeg’s defence last season and head coach Tim Burke has made it clear his starters have to get better, or start looking for new jobs.

Burke also wants more intensity and says that’s what Washington brings.

Washington has slotted in at weak-side linebacker early in training camp, a position that requires a lot of coverage in the secondary.

Burke says Washington could still handle returns if that’s what special teams co-ordinator Craig Dickenson wants.
