Leslie Van Houten faces 20th parole hearing since the summer of notorious murders
CHINO, Calif. – Leslie Van Houten, who was the youngest Charles Manson follower convicted of murder, plans to speak personally to a California parole board on Wednesday to ask for release from prison.
Van Houten has been in custody since her conviction 44 years ago with Manson and two other women in the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders.
At 63, she now has grey hair and wrinkles and her lawyer says she has changed more than physically. The lawyer says Van Houten makes amends for her crime every day of her life, trying to do good for others.
A prosecutor is expected to oppose her release and survivors of those killed in 1969 plan to appear to speak out against her bid for freedom. They will cite the heinous nature of the notorious crimes.
