VICTORIA – Premier Christy Clark will introduce a cabinet Friday that includes a new natural gas ministry and a team of ministers focused on growing British Columbia’s economy and reducing government costs.
That is expected to involve a wide-ranging review of government programs after the recall of the legislature, which could happen within the next two weeks.
The Liberals have forecast a balanced budget even though the Opposition New Democrats said during the recent election campaign that the budget was heading for a deficit of $800 million.
Liberal insiders are suggesting Clark’s cabinet could include up to three newly elected MLAs and see several current ministers dropped from the front bench.
The election defeats of two current cabinet ministers and the retirement of one minister leaves openings in the health, jobs and aboriginal relations ministries.
Clark’s cabinet announcement could also see her announce the date and location of a byelection after she lost her own seat in the election.
