FLOOD WATCH 2017: West Kelowna RCMP investigate complaints of boaters too close to shore

KELOWNA – RCMP received complaints about boaters on Okanagan Lake in West Kelowna ignoring the pleas of homeowners to keep their speeds down but no tickets of fines have been handed out.

Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says West Kelowna RCMP received two reports of boaters producing excessive wake in the area over the long weekend.

"The boaters in each case were either not located or ticketed as a result of insufficient information available to locate the vessels or their alleged actions were not believed to meet the threshold to be considered unsafe or careless in nature," O'Donaghey says in an email.

"The public may continue to report any unsafe boating activity to police," he says.

The Central Okanagan Regional District have issued warnings to boaters about debris in the water and that creating waves close to shore could damage flood protection measures.
