Elford solid as Ontario Blue blanks Saskatchewan at women’s U18 championship

REGINA – Tristyn Elford made 24 saves as Ontario Blue shut out Saskatchewan 2-0 on Thursday in the second day of the preliminary round at the Canadian under-18 women’s hockey championship.

Alicia Pallister had a goal and an assist for Ontario Blue (1-1-0), while Brooke McQuigge also scored in the win.

Chantal Burke was solid in net for Saskatchewan (1-1-0), coming through with 26 saves.

Earlier Thursday, Emma Maltais and Camryn Tait each had a pair of goals, and Ontario Red defeated Team Atlantic 6-1.

Daryl Watts and Kristy Pidgeon also scored for Ontario Red (2-0-0). Maggie Connors had the lone goal for Team Atlantic (0-2-0).

Gabrielle David, Amy Landry, Rosalie Demers and Alice Fillion were the goal scorers as Quebec (2-0-0) topped British Columbia 4-3.

Amy Potomak struck twice for B.C. (1-1-0) and Maegan Beres also scored.

Tyra Meropoulis and Taylor Sawka both scored as Alberta (1-1-0) edged Manitoba 2-1.

Ashton Bell replied for Manitoba (0-2-0).
