Email scammers try to issue speeding ticket to B.C. RCMP

The B.C. RCMP has been targetted by an email scam making the rounds.

E Division received an email from a fraud artists posing as the RCMP and demanding payment for a traffic ticket, according to a media release.

"Hello Dear, bcrcmp@rcmp-grc.gc.ca," the email states. "You have been detected with a speed violation."

The bogus email goes on to say the RCMP had been ticketed for negligent driving and it must pay a $62.46 fine.

A link is attached to the bottom of the email, claiming to lead to an invoice.

RCMP say that "yes, even we receive suspect email."

Officers never send out unsolicited emails, let alone emails demanding money for traffic violations, police say, and warn if you do get one of these fraudulent messages don't click any of the links or pay the fine.

You should report the email to the Canadian Anti- Fraud Center and then delete it.

RCMP are asking people to spread the word about this scam so that no one falls for it.
