Keane and Larentowicz score, Galaxy beat Whitecaps 2-0

CARSON, Calif. – Robbie Keane and Jeff Larentowicz scored, Steven Gerrard assisted both, and the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 on Monday night.

Keane opened the scoring in the 12th minute, taking Gerrard’s feed near the penalty arc and bending a right-footed shot into the top right corner. Keane was in his first MLS action since May 22 due to an international duty with Ireland for the European Championship.

Larentowicz headed home Gerrard’s corner in the 47th minute and the Galaxy (6-3-8) held on after Nigel de Jong was sent off in the 74th minute due to a serious foul.

Brian Rowe had three saves in the final 15 minutes to preserve his fourth shutout of the season and LA ended a seven-game winless streak that included a run of 371 scoreless minutes. It was the club’s longest winless streak since the 2012 season.

Vancouver dropped to 7-8-3.
