Second suspicious fire at Lumby residence destroys car

LUMBY – There have been two suspicious fires at the same home in Lumby recently, with the latest earlier this week.

RCMP say emergency crews were called to a car fire at about 10:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, at a home on Shuswap Avenue in Lumby.

The 2015 Volkswagen golf was completed engulfed in flames when police and fire crews arrived, according to an RCMP media release.

“The fire was quickly extinguished, however the vehicle was a total loss,” Cpl. Trevor Tribes says in the release. “This was an extremely hot fire, causing heat damage to a pickup truck parked nearby and charring a fence.”

Tribes says the fire was stopped from spreading to a nearby garden shed and neighbouring homes.

“This is the second suspicious fire at this residence in recent weeks and police are seeking information from the public that may lead to the identity of those responsible,” he says.
