News web site Apollo reported that Pelss leaped to his death Tuesday from a bridge in the Latvian capital Riga, but his death has not been confirmed.
“There has been contradictory information reported, at times, and we are trying to confirm the facts,” the Oilers said in a statement. “Once we are able to do that, we will be able to offer further comment. At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Pelss family.”
The 20-year-old forward played for the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League this past season, where he had one goal and seven assists in 20 games. He also played 13 games for the Stockton Thunder in the ECHL.
