UPDATE: One person in custody after BB gun incident in Brocklehurst

KAMLOOOPS – Officers had guns drawn and police dogs on the scene this morning for what turned out to be a man with a BB gun in the Brocklehurst neighbourhood in Kamloops.

A 32-year-old Kamloops man, previously known to police, is in custody and facing several charges, including firearms charges, according to an RCMP media release.

Police say the man came into the lobby of a seniors complex around 7:40 a.m. today, June 6, on 800 Southhill Street with what appeared to be a handgun and started behaving unusually. 

"Police attended the area and set up a perimeter from Desmond Street to Windbreak from Tranquille Road to the South Thompson River and asked the public to stay out of the area," Cpl. Jodie Shelkie says in the release. "Two police dogs and numerous officers patrolled the area."

A witness says there were at least five police vehicles at Southhill Gardens.

Shelkie says officers on patrol saw the man drop the BB gun and attempt to flee. The suspect was pursued and arrested.
