Early morning car crash under investigation

VERNON – Police are investigating a series of events ending with a car crash and no sign of the occupants.

It all started shortly after midnight Sept. 28 when the Vernon RCMP received a report of a car speeding through the intersection of 32 Avenue and 32 Street.

“The silver car with two occupants was driving at a high rate of speed nearly hitting (a) woman in her vehicle, who then called our office,” RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk said.

Roughly an hour and a half later, police responded to a report of a single vehicle accident at 40 Street and Okanagan Avenue.

“No one was in the vehicle when police arrived,” Molendyk said. “A police dog team was called in however they were unable to locate anyone from the vehicle.”

The vehicle was badly damaged and had to be towed from the scene. There was also some damage to a guard rail.

The next day, the vehicle was reported stolen. Police continue to investigate the crash and are following up with the registered owner of the vehicle.
