Report: Colorado drought conditions dramatically reduced

DENVER – A national report monitoring drought conditions says much of Colorado has emerged from months of dry conditions.

The Colorado Sun reports that the U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday says only about 46 per cent of Colorado is now listed in some kind of drought status, down from 83 per cent last week.

The report’s analysis of weekly drought conditions throughout the United States says there are no more extreme or exceptional drought conditions in the state following a dry 2018 winter and summer.

The newspaper says that the Natural Resources Conservation Service reports that the state’s snowpack is 141 per cent of normal and at 205 per cent of last year’s level.

Gov. Jared Polis has appeared in a Facebook video in which he calls the state’s snowpack “epic.”
