Carly Rae Jepsen recording ‘Little Mermaid’ tune to time with Blu-ray release
TORONTO – Disney is calling upon Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen to refresh one of its signature hits from “The Little Mermaid.”
The Mission, B.C., singer will record a new version of “Part of Your World” for the Oct. 1 “Diamond Edition” Blu-ray release of the multiple Oscar-winning 1989 film.
A music video of Jepsen’s performance will be included with the release.
“Part of Your World” was written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.
In the original film, it was sung by American actress Jodi Benson, who played the film’s lead character Ariel.
Jepsen, whose “Call Me Maybe” topped charts around the world, currently has one Canadian tour date scheduled for Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome on July 10, but she’s hinted that a fuller Canadian trek could be on the horizon.
