Captaintreacherous capture $1-million Pepsi North America Cup pacing event

CAMPBELLVILLE, Ont. – Captaintreacherous came on down the stretch to win the $1-million Pepsi North America Cup on Saturday night.

Driver Tim Tetrick had the son of 2008 Cup champion Somebeachsomewhere come on late to finish the world’s richest pacing event in 1:48.3 at Mohawk Racetrack and claim the $500,000 winner’s share.

Captaintreacherous, the 7-5 favourite, improved to 3-0 this year and has never finished out of the money (11 wins, one second, one third).

Twilight Bonfire, a 90-1 longshot, was second in the 10-horse field while Wake Up Peter finished third.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne wasn’t present for the North America Cup, but was in attendance at Mohawk Racetrack earlier Saturday night.
