Stay off Kal Beach pier or face fines, local government warns

COLDSTREAM – The public is being warned to stay off the pier at Kal Beach.

The stern reminder comes from the District of Coldstream and North Okanagan Regional District which point out the pier has been closed for a number of weeks already due to the flood conditions.

“Despite this closure and in contravention of signage and barriers, residents have continued to access the dock,” the district says in a media release.

Due to heavy wave action on June 8, the pier structure was damaged and there is a heightened safety concern regarding further use, the district says.

Local government is installing additional barricades to entry and will have a security presence to deter unlawful use in contravention of the posted closure.

“Violations of these regulations will be subject to enforcement action including fines,” the district states.

The warning comes after videos were posted to social media of a fight on the dock.
