UPDATE: Downtown Kamloops bank robbery suspect previously known to police

KAMLOOPS – Police are releasing more information about a bank robbery in downtown Kamloops earlier this morning.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release that the 25-year-old suspect entered the TD Bank on Victoria street at 11:10 a.m. and demanded cash.

He was given an envelope of money and he left, but the bank cashier had put an anti-robbery device in the envelope. Shelkie says that helped police identify the suspect.

He dropped the money a short distance from the bank and tried to leave downtown on foot, but was located by officers and arrested in the 300 block of Lansdowne Street.

This same suspect allegedly tried to rob the A & W restaurant on Lansdowne shortly before the bank robbery, but no money was obtained.

No one was injured in either incident. Shelkie says the suspect was previously known to police and is from Kamloops.

Two months ago, the same TD Bank on Victoria Street was robbed and the suspect in that case was arrested.

In February of this year, a man was charged with robbing the bank.
