Flood watch for South Thompson River ends

KAMLOOPS – The flood watch for the South Thompson River has been downgraded from a flood watch to a high streamflow advisory by the B.C. River Forecast Centre.

The River Forecast Centre says this morning, June 12, while high water is still a concern on the South Thompsom, flooding is not expected.

The high streamflow advisory on the North Thompson River has now ended after it was downgraded from a flood watch on June 6.

The high stream flow advisory remains in effect for the Thompson River through Kamloops and downstream, along with the Shuswap River.

River levels throughout southern B.C. have been receding over the past few days. Snow packs continue to melt but not has fast and that means less runoff, according to the River Forecast Centre.

The water levels in Shuswap Lake and the South Thompson River appear to have peaked, and have even dropped a bit over the past 24 hours.

The River Forecast Centre is forecasting a continued drop in river and lake levels this week.
