Jamaica sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown suspended as officials probe alleged doping case

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica is serving a provisional suspension after failing a drug test.

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association announced Tuesday that the 2004 and 2008 Olympic champion at 200 metres is provisionally suspended while a panel reviews the case.

Campbell-Brown’s manager, Claude Bryan, says the accusation “is a shock to her.” He says Campbell-Brown is “not a cheat” and is determined to clear her name. Bryan says she does not accept “guilt of wilfully taking a banned substance.”

The suspension will keep Campbell-Brown out of this week’s national championships in Jamaica, where Usain Bolt is scheduled to run.

Also a world champion at 100 and 200 metres, Campbell Brown is among the most decorated athletes in Jamaica’s sprinting history.
