Canadian Pacific cuts intermodal service from Toronto to Calgary by 20 hours

CALGARY – Canadian Pacific (TSX:CP) says it has launched a faster intermodal freight train service on its key route between Toronto to Calgary, cutting the trip down by 20 hours.

The Calgary-based railway said Wednesday the improvement in service is attributed to better train design and Canadian Pacific’s usage of the shortest route available between the two cities.

It said the 3,400-kilometre trip between Toronto and Calgary will now take 64 hours.

“Customers are taking advantage of CP’s faster transit times in major intermodal corridors, and given Calgary’s importance as a Canadian distribution hub, improving this service is the next logical step,” said Jane O’Hagan, CP’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

“We are helping our customers become more competitive in their own markets and offering previously unavailable options to business not currently shipping with CP.”

This improvement comes after Canada’s second-largest railway shortened schedules for trips between Vancouver to Toronto and Vancouver to Chicago last year.
